The 2024 Summer Olympics marked a historic event, the re-opening of the Seine River for marathon swimming events. Prior to each race, the water had to be tested for toxicity, as the River was used to dump waste in the past. Multiple decontamination stations had been setup in the river, and still, the triathlon swim was held indoors due to high bacteria levels.

As per usual, the majority of Olympic swimming events are held in a long course (50m) pool. 35 races were held at the Plaine Saint-Denis and there is space for 5000 spectators. About 890 swimmers compete in this pool over the 16-17 days which the Olympics occur over. 21 world record were broken in this very pool in 2024.
